Reduction of Carbon Dioxide Emissions from Coal-fired Generation of Electricity Regulations were published in 2012 by the Government of Canada to set performance standards for CO2 emissions from coal power plants. Reducing the amount of electricity made from coal power plants results in lower emissions of 1) CO2 and; 2) air pollutants. It was estimated that these air quality improvements would benefit the health of Canadians by reducing deaths, hospital visits, and asthma episodes, with a total socio-economic value of $4.2 billion (in 2010 dollars) between 2015-2035.
